Mrs. Nanavati’s Chai

On a recent trip back to her home town of Hancock, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula (the U.P. for all you non Michiganders), Shefali was good enough to film her mom, Mrs. Nanavati, who was gracious enough to agree to be filmed.  For her you-food debut, she made a simple and delicious version of chai.  As you’ll see, it’s as easy as making a cup of tea.  Alright, maybe it’s a little more involved but the results are so much more delicious. Check out the recipe and video below and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Chai Ingredients (for two cups):

1 1/2 cups of water
1 cup milk
1 tsp ground ginger
2 crushed cardamom seeds
(or 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder)
a pinch to 1/4 tsp of tea spice (a premade mixture with cardamom, ginger, black pepper and other spices)
mint (optional)
2 tsp of black tea (loose leaf – though you can also use a couple tea bags)
3 tsp of sugar
