Ryan’s Mapo Tofu

Alright, check out my cousin’s take on a Chinese classic, “mapo tofu“. You’ll notice the video that he shot and edited in a day (far quicker than anything I’ve ever done) is by far the most visually sophisticated and cinematic of all the the videos yet posted on this site. It’s all about visual storytelling. I sense the influence of P. T. Anderson. That’s because he’s a genius and an incredibly talented filmmaker and animator. Did I mention we’re related by blood? Bret, you might want to pay attention to how he peels the skin off the Italian sausages. He doesn’t even use his hands. There’s no “pushing it” at all. Intrigued? Check out the full video and recipe.

  1. Nice work, Ryan … you make all of us lazy-ass TV hacks look like, well, hacks. I thank you for confirming what I always suspected … Italian and Chinese = two great tastes that taste great together!

  2. i really liked this video – loved that there was no talking but the visuals were really cool – and loved the sped up chopping, that was sweet – it was funny too, guess funny food videos are hard to make i’d imagine

  3. This video has inspired me to stop always saying let’s go out to eat and to actually get into the kitched and try to learn how to cook. You can take full cred. Mr. Ryan

My resolution for this year was to learn how to cook and this site I think has just provided me with the tool to make it happen.
    Nice work C-Ting.
